Farts and Candy

Today our book dialog was "I like cats."
The other person would reply, "Not me, I like hamsters."

This was a good dialog to get the students listening, talking, and responding to what other people around them where saying. I would ask one student what they liked, then the next student had to agree or disagree. To begin, we colored in a few pictures of food they would like to eat. If they didn't want to eat it, they left them blank.

One of the naughty boys told me in his native tongue, "This cake is made of poop. The cherry on top is actually a bloody piece of poop. I like poop cake." I'm a lucky soul to be able to have the language skills to translate interesting phrases like this for a living. This is what four years of working in a kindergarten lets you do.

Anyway, I asked the rest of the class if they liked eating cake made out of fecal matter. They responded with a response in English of, "Not me!" which means the lesson wasn't a complete waste. Later, I had a poll. I would ask one student what they liked, and then the rest of the class voted their opinions by raising their hands. A girl stated, "I like farts," but the rest of the class responded with, "Not me, I like candy."

The amount of time spent talking about anal functions in class is starting to increase as more of the younger students pick up on the older boys naughty behaviors. This means I have to listen to disgusting words from everyone, and most of the time the younger students don't have any idea what they are saying. It's cute, in a way, but after the twentieth time it's a bit stale by now.
