It's all about the networking
My fiancee and I have a number of connections available to take advantage of to make our lives easier. I am lucky to have so much help with things we need to do. This has grown in importance since we are getting married and have a limited amount of time and money to prepare for everything. So many people have helped us and I am very thankful. We visited some friends that will be in our wedding ceremony. They are getting married a month before we will, and already have their new, very nice, very expensive apartment in the Seoul area. They were moving in yesterday, and had their appliances purchased and delivered before their furniture was purchased. They had a flat screen television, an awesome washing machine and top of the line refrigerator. They didn't have a single piece of furniture in the house. We slept on the floor and had to use their very nice curtains for covers as they didn't even have blankets. They helped us by letting us spend the night at their apartment and giving us a ride to the city. That way we could get to the jewelry shop another person we knew worked at. Someone my fiancee was friends with in Australia has a family owned jewelry shop in the heart of the jewelry district in Seoul. Since we knew the owner's daughter, we got service while the rest of the district was closed on Sunday, saved a fortune, then they even took us out to lunch to catch up with what my fiancee had been up to! Once that was finished, we went across town and met a relative who owned a blanket and bedding factory. She bought us lunch too, despite our objections, and she got to know a little about me. She asked us about our bedding and housing situation. We wouldn't want to end up like our friends, with an apartment with nothing to sleep on. We explained about our housing and she promised to give us something as well. That is just from this weekend. I've already got a future brother in law promising me to help with any computer problems, an aunt giving me face massages, etc. Everyone has been so supportive and helpful that it makes a huge difference as we've just gotten started but already feel like we have friends and family to count on. If there is some give and take to all of this, I can expect to have some favors called in, but that's a small price to pay for being able to get things started on the right foot.
