Farting General Bbungbbungi
Korean life December 1st. 2006, 10:12pm
For the first few years I lived here, I saw this character everywhere. Little orange guy that very young children loved. How young? Kindergarten students by the age of five or six had already outgrown whatever it is this guy was about. While my students younger brothers or sisters might have a Bbungbbungi bag, no self-respecting kindergarten student would be caught dead with it. This limited my knowledge to what hell this orange thing was for a long time. Now that I don’t teach very young students anymore, the only time I see this little orange guy is when I go shopping or see young children on the street.
It turns out his name, (방귀대장 뿡뿡이) Banggui Taechang Bbungbbungi means, "The Farting General Bbungbbungi", or maybe he is the "General of Farting Bbungbbungi". When you have a military rank in your ability to flap cheeks, people should learn how to properly address you out of respect. Imagine Barney, that obnoxious purple dinosaur (NSFW), except the show was about a orange thing that farts. If there are a cultural equivalent of stoners in Korea, I’m sure they sit around getting high all day and watching this thing pass gas.
